Waxing or Waning with the Tides of the Moon

In Buddhism, it is said that those who commit any of five grievous sins (gogyakuzai) invariably fall into the hells of incessant suffering. These five offences are: 1) killing one’s father, 2) killing one’s mother, 3) killing an arhat [a well accomplished monk or nun] 4) injuring a buddha, 5) causing disunity among the community of followers.
